HIP-HOP AT 50: A FEMALE RAPPER'S DELIGHT

MC Lyte—hip-hop pioneer and founding member of the Kennedy Center Hip-Hop Culture Council—is bringing the "I Am Woman: A Celebration of Women in Hip Hop" event back to the Kennedy Center for a second consecutive year.

Sponsored by UMG, the 2023 installment will transpire Sunday (6/4) with performances by Rapsody, Kash Doll, Bahamadia, Mama Sol and, of course, MC Lyte. The intent is to honor "the genius, diversity and power of female emcees" of all generations.

Last year saw appearances by Sol, Da Brat, Trina, Remy Ma, Monie Love, Mumu Fresh, Yo Yo, Tierra Whack, Ra Brown and DJ EQUE.

Seen in the photo knowing they can smoke us in a rap battle without even trying are (l-r) Lyte, Rapsody, Doll, Bahamadia and Sol.
