WHAT IT IS: 21-year-old Fredericktown, Ohio, native Preston Cooper represents a new generation in country rock. Joining the US Postal Service after graduation, this so-called “Singing Mailman” walked 14 miles each day while belting out raw, raspy vocal runs, then clocking out to perform across the region. Hundreds of shows later, songwriting legends Brad and Brett Warren discovered Preston at a Toledo songwriters’ round and immediately recognized his talent. Since then, he’s been refining his craft and working on his debut record, wielding a high-intensity mix of organic country and edgy alt rock.
