RIAA PRESENTS CHRIS JANSON WITH 5X PLATINUM CERT
1/30/25

Big Machine’s Chris Janson just added some more hardware to his trophy room with an RIAA 5x platinum certification for his smash “Buy Me a Boat.”

Janson accepted the honor on 1/20 at a Washington D.C. event designed as a fundraiser for Musicians on Call, where he was joined by RIAA chairman & CEO Mitch Glazier and chief policy officer Morna Willens.

The singer-songwriter also wanted to raise attention for musicians’ rights, which he’s emphasized in his support for Tennessee’s ELVIS Act, a now-enacted law designed to restrict use of AI and protect the image, likeness and voice of all Americans, not just celebrities.

In recognition of the award, Janson said, “It was an awesome time in the RIAA house and a complete surprise receiving the 5x Platinum award for 'Buy Me A Boat.' I'm totally humbled and grateful.”

Glazier added,“We don't take these moments for granted [and] to recognize the incredible hard work and creative talent of an artist like Chris Janson. RIAA is honored to acknowledge not only this single, but his drive to ensure that all musicians can thrive.”

Big Machine Label Group's Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment imprint drops Janson’s new single, “Stay Rowdy,” on Friday (1/31).

HITS is still paying off that 2019 dinghy.

“Hudson’s authenticity as a storyteller is going to take him a long way," SMPN CEO Rusty Gaston said. "We’re excited to welcome him to the SMP family, and we are absolutely honored to be a part of his journey.”

Gaston could not say the same about us.

The Gastonia, North Carolina native's debut album will be released at some point this year and has been preceded by the singles "Sit Crooked" and "Made for Tennessee."

Davis is booked by WME and managed by Alex Lunt for Type A Management, who is pictured far right with UMPG Nashville's Roxy King and Tomlinson as well as the cowboy hat-clad Davis.

HITS' type, however, has yet to be adequately determined.

KRAUSS, UNION STATION SET FIRST ALBUM IN 14 YEARS
1/29/25

Alison Krauss and Union Station will embark on a new journey on 3/28, when they release Arcadia, their first album in 14 years.

The 10-song collection, which will come out on Down the Road Records, adds a fresh element to the group’s mix in the form of new member Russell Moore, the former frontman for IIIrd Tyme Out, on co-lead vocals, guitar and mandolin.

Teaming with the two-year-old Down the Road is another reunion of sorts for Union Station, as it brings them back together with Rounder Records founders Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton Levy, Bill Nowlin and John Virant, a group that first signed Krauss when she was just 14 years old.

Discussing Arcadia’s material, Krauss said, “The stories of the past are told in this music. It's that whole idea of ‘in the good old days when times were bad.’ There's so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive.”

The album’s first single, “Looks Like the End of the Road,” is available now. Of that track, Krauss said, “Usually, I find something that's a first song, and then things fall into place. That song was ‘Looks Like The End Of The Road.’ Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive, and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.”

Krauss and Union Station will support Arcadia with a 75-date tour that begins on 4/17 at the Louisville Palace in Louisville, Kentucky. The run, their first road test in 10 years, will wrap at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on 9/28. Old Crow Medicine Show founder Willie Watson will open all all but the first two gigs.

BMLG WELCOMES REYNOLDS TO NEW VP ROLE

Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) has appointed Tim Reynolds to vice president of digital marketing. He'll report to BMLG Chariman/CEO Scott Borchetta. The newly created position will see Reynolds leading the company's digital marketing strategies and online presence across all imprints, including Big Machine Records, The Valory Music Company, Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment and Big Machine Rock.

Reynolds spent the past three years at TikTok/ByteDance, building SoundOn's music distribution and services business while leading its A&R efforts. SoundOn contributed to the success of tracks such as Muni Long's “Hrs & Hrs,” Armani White's “BILLIE EILISH” and G-Eazy's “Lady Killers II.” Reynolds also helped develop singer-songwriter Katherine Li and country artist Vincent Mason.

“As our world evolves, so must our thinking and approach,” Borchetta said. “When reimagining our digital marketing landscape, vision and needs, Tim not only checked every box, he added a few. He's a perfect fit for our label group, and his presence is already being felt."

Funny, most people run when they start to feel our presence. Pictured arms crossed and refusing to give us his email is Reynolds.
