Alison Krauss and Union Station will embark on a new journey on 3/28, when they release Arcadia, their first album in 14 years.
The 10-song collection, which will come out on Down the Road Records, adds a fresh element to the group’s mix in the form of new member Russell Moore, the former frontman for IIIrd Tyme Out, on co-lead vocals, guitar and mandolin.
Teaming with the two-year-old Down the Road is another reunion of sorts for Union Station, as it brings them back together with Rounder Records founders Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton Levy, Bill Nowlin and John Virant, a group that first signed Krauss when she was just 14 years old.
Discussing Arcadia’s material, Krauss said, “The stories of the past are told in this music. It's that whole idea of ‘in the good old days when times were bad.’ There's so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive.”
The album’s first single, “Looks Like the End of the Road,” is available now. Of that track, Krauss said, “Usually, I find something that's a first song, and then things fall into place. That song was ‘Looks Like The End Of The Road.’ Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive, and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.”
Krauss and Union Station will support Arcadia with a 75-date tour that begins on 4/17 at the Louisville Palace in Louisville, Kentucky. The run, their first road test in 10 years, will wrap at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on 9/28. Old Crow Medicine Show founder Willie Watson will open all all but the first two gigs.
