THE MLC USHERS IN BLACK MUSIC MONTH
5/30/23

The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC) is hosting an upcoming panel in honor of Black Music Month dubbed “The MLC Presents: The Writer Behind the Song (Black Music Month Edition)” as well as a workshop, “From Beat to Bank: Dissecting the Flow of Digital Music Royalties.”

The former is moderated by Janishia Jones, CEO of Fresh ‘N Sassy Productions, and boasts several speakers, including recording artist Latashá, singer-songwriter Stephanie Jacques and Grammy-nominated songwriter/CEO of The Mezzo Agency, Tami LaTrell. The panel will take place on 6/7 at 4pm CT. Register here.

The latter is specifically designed for aspiring hip-hop and R&B music creators. Led by The MLC’s Dae Bogan and produced by Not Just Country Music and The MLC, the workshop will take creators through a crash course demystifying the intricate world of music rights, income entitlements, publishing administration and the distribution of U.S. digital music royalties. The workshop will be held at The MLC’s office in Nashville on 6/22 from 4pm to 6pm CT. Register here.

Both events are intended to serve as platforms for education and empowerment by magnifying Black voices and providing invaluable resources to creators. As always, the MLC is continuing its mission of fostering an environment where Black artists and creators can achieve recognition and rightful compensation for their contributions to the music industry.
