Sony/ATV has inked Nomcebo Zikode to an exclusive publishing deal.
Zikode, nee Nomcebo Nkwanyana, best known for her recent feature on Master KG’s global smash “Jerusalema,” which she also co-wrote. The deal encompasses Zikode’s catalog, which includes her latest single, “Xola Moya Wam,” as well as future releases.
With over 200m YouTube views, “Jerusalema” triggered a viral dance trend with #JerusalemaDanceChallenge and led to multiple remixes, including one with Nigerian singer Burna Boy that reached the U.S. charts and the U.K. Afrobeats Singles chart. It’s also the most Shazamed song globally and reached Gold and Platinum status in Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain and Belgium.
Hailing from Kwazulu Natal, Hammersdale, South Africa, the singer/songwriter first got her start in 2018 when she was featured on South African producer DJ Ganyani’s “Emazulwini."
“As a South African overseeing Sony/ATV’s International companies around the world, it gives me an added thrill that my team will be able to work not only on a South African penned global hit like “Jerusalema,” but on all the other songs that Nomcebo has written,” shared Guy Henderson, Sony/ATV President, International.
Rowlin Naicker, Managing Director, Sony/ATV South Africa, added, “Nomcebo is a force to be reckoned with, and this is just the beginning of a long and illustrious musical career and we are proud to be working with her.”
“Nomcebo is a very talented songwriter and I look forward to developing this relationship,” said Munya Chanetsa, A&R Manager, Sony/ATV South Africa. Zikcode added, “I appreciate the trust and belief Rowlin, Munya and the Sony/ATV global family have in me and will strive to deliver only my best.”
