THE B-SIDE
FUCK IT, DOG, LIFE'S A RISK
6/17/15

I ditched the cesspool for a week to watch my flesh start to bubble in the Caribbean and have my bone marrow infused with tequila. I returned to a massive mag deadline here. As my head throbbed with the sudden influx of actual cognitive thinking and my body began to shed like a snake, I searched for the perfect soundtrack to ease my pain and aid in the digestion of reality.

I'd like to thank the gods of punk rock for summoning new music from FIDLAR. The L.A.-based four-piece brings it hard on Too, the forthcoming album via Mom+Pop. Interestingly enough, Too marks the first time the band's actually recorded with a professional producer. With the help of Jay Joyce (Cage the Elephant, The Wallflowers, Eric Church, Little Big Town), they recorded the head-banging set in Nashville over the span of just two weeks.

With a sound that draws comparisons to the likes of Violent Femmes, Ty Segall, The Orwells and perhaps even a more light-hearted Germs at times, the skate punk outfit really begins to fine-tune their style on this latest project.

It's fun, it's in your face and it's packed with pop songs that we're kicked in the nuts and maced with spine-tingling guitar riffs. Most importantly, it doesn't take itself too seriously, as many bands seem to do when they begin to dread the "sophomore slump."

Feast your eyes on the incredibly entertaining and downright cheeky video for lead single, "40oz. on Repeat." Even Britney Spears makes an appearance... sort of.

Expect Too to crack open your eardrums come 9/4.

xx,
Samantha Hissong
