Floods, crazy heatwaves and people getting blown out of beach chairs in New Hampshire. Yep, the summer of 2015 has it all!
The folks over at Republic are in a heatwave of their own with Taylor Swift continuing to break records. This week, CW, Spangler and Russell were more than happy to let us know that “Bad Blood” (Big Machine) had broken another record by posting the most single-week spins with a total of 19,518; it finally unseated Mark Ronson f/Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.” Labelmate The Weeknd continues to post historic numbers of his own. “Can’t Feel My Face” (XO) took a big chart jump this week, as it was the #3 Greatest Gainer. Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” (Safehouse/Island/Hollywood) is also sizzling its way up the chart. It lands in the Top 20 as the #1 Greatest Gainer. Additionally, there were one billion impressions and a #1 Twitter trend upon the track’s release. Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” (DCD2/Island) climbs to #21, and it just posted some great new callout numbers that should keep it moving upward. Sage the Gemini f/Nick Jonas’ “Good Thing” was Most Added on impact and is already at #35. Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” (Island) is Top 5 PTL MB Callout and the sales and Shazam numbers are skyrocketing. Austin Mahone’s “Dirty Work” launches this week and already has an impressive list of call letters stacking up, including KAMP, KMVQ, B96 and KEGY just to name a few.

Hollywood’s Finck, Smith and Ennis are also quick to point out that Demi’s “Cool for the Summer” closed out 90% of the Pop panel in the first week and that the song hit #1 at iTunes in just three hours after release. Both Hollywood and Republic raised a glass to that success! Meanwhile, Andy Grammer’s “Honey, I’m Good” (S-Curve) continues to climb, moving up to #8 this week.
Def Jam’s Sackheim, Rothschild & Farag are sure kicking up their summer game with two tracks impacting this week. Alessia Cara’s “Here” will come out of the gate with majors like WIHT, WIOQ, WBLI and WKSS among many others, while Afrojack launches with KEGY, KZON and WDZH. The latter earned Top 10 Shazam numbers in Miami off early play from both Y100 and WFLC. There are also Top 5 Shazam numbers in San Fran from the play of KMVQ and KYLD. Oh, and they pulled the double from Z100! Nice work.
Epic’s Team Glassman has Fifth Harmony f/Kid Ink’s “Worth It” (SYCO) sitting Top 5 and looking very strong as they eye the top of the chart; it’s sold close to two million singles. Jidenna’s “Classic Man” (Wondaland) looks like it’s ready to make a move to Pop; after two weeks on top of the Rhythm chart, new majors at Pop are taking notice. This week’s new adds already include KHKS, WKQI, KHFI and KMVQ. Meghan Trainor f/John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” is moving to Sub-Power at WRVW and Power at WKRQ due to huge early reaction.
Artbeatz/RED’s Buch, Halpern and Weil have another one about to light up the chart; Daya’s “Hide Away” is quickly getting on a lot of PDs’ radar. It’s gotten early airplay from SiriusXM’s Hits 1 and Venus, WZPL, WIOQ, KHTS and WKST. WKST’s David Edgar (pictured left) has this to say: “Daya has an incredible voice and a song that connects with young women! Plus, she is from Pittsburgh and ‘slays’ in person (my 16-year-old daughter Ashley’s exact words).”
Capitol’s Reese, Rainey, Youngblood and Siciliano have Tori Kelly’s “Should’ve Been Us” ready to make the jump to Top 20; there are big increases this week from WEZB, WFLC, WFBC and WODS. Sam Hunt’s “Take Your Time” (MCA Nashville) is moving up inside the Top 30 with big increases from KHKS, KHFI, KZZP and WDZH. Silento’s “Watch Me” is on fire and makes the big jump to Top 30 this week; this one should be back in the Most Added column this week.
Global Entertainment’s Team Palmese posted up another Most Added week last week on Nathan Sykes’ “Kiss Me Quick,” and it’s currently bubbling just under and looking to chart. New adds this week already include WFLC, WKFS and KPLV. Look for big numbers again this week on this one.
RCA’s Riccitelli, JR, Daddio, Cooper & Strazza have moved Sia’s “Elastic Heart” (Monkey Puzzle) up to #13 this week, edging ever closer to the Top 10. Pitbull f/Chris Brown’s “Fun” (Mr. 305/Polo Grounds) moves up inside the Top 20 with big support from Y100, WPRO, KDND and WODS. R City f/Adam Levine’s “Locked Away” moved up some 20 spots and is quickly gathering call letters and making believers. Big early Shazam numbers are turning heads with Top 10 rankings in four major markets.
Columbia’s Leipsner, Borris and Vaughan pulled in 30+ stations on impact for Little Mix’s “Black Magic” (SYCO). With the early reaction on this one, they should be off to the races. MKTO’s “Bad Girls” debuts this week and has 70+ stations on board, including WWPW, WRNW, KKDM and WHQC. OMI’s “Cheerleader” (Ultra) was the #2 Greatest Gainer. It’s now Top 3 and is showing no signs of slowing down. Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” is now a Platinum single and Top 15 on the chart with lots of TV and social to feed it; this one looks to be Top 10-bound.
Warner Bros.’ Gray, Dyer, Reich and Shih have Adam Lambert’s “Ghost Town” moving up the chart with some help from big spin increases out of WBLI, WFLC, KKRZ and WNOK. After a record-breaking add day, Kaya Stewart’s “In Love with a Boy” is now ready to make the Top 30 move. And next week, they’re launching the new Nico & Vinz track, “That’s How You Know.”
