COLOR PURPLE SOUNDTRACK GETS ROYAL TREATMENT

With a little help from Oprah Winfrey, gamma. has unveiled the artists contributing to the soundtrack to The Color Purple, including Fantasia, Alicia Keys, Usher, H.E.R., Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Missy Elliott, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Halle Bailey, Coco Jones and Megan Thee Stallion. Lead single “Lifeline,” written and co-produced by Keys, is available now.

Quincy Jones, Scott Sanders and gamma. founder/CEO Larry Jackson served as executive producers of the album, due 12/15 via gamma., Warner Bros. and WaterTower Music. The film is slated to drop on Christmas Day. We are already making our reservation at Twin Dragon.

Said Jackson: “I am immensely proud that the filmmakers and Warner Bros. Pictures chose us to collaborate on an album that brings to life this reimagined classic. The Color Purple, in its many iterations, is unquestionably hallowed ground in Black culture. Just as director Blitz Bazawule has done a spectacular job taking the film to another level artistically, we wanted to bring an equally adventurous, creative take to the expanded soundtrack.” He added that the ST will mimic the "great R&B/pop soundtracks of the 1990s" while bridging the gap between legends and newer artists.

Winfrey, who co-produced the film with Jones and Steven Spielberg, co-starred in the latter's 1985 adaptation of the Alice Walker novel, for which she received one of that film's 11 Oscar nominations.

Peep the post below, and please pardon our Purple prose.
