Barbie soundtrack singles from Ice Spice w/Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa are hitting new peaks on Spotify and Apple Music in the wake of the summer blockbuster’s $162m opening weekend.
In a very unusual move, the vast majority of the revenue and market share goes to Capitol and Interscope on the Ice Spice and Eilish songs, which are both being driven by their marketing and promotion teams—a great look for both companies as they get instant gratification from the Barbie phenomenal opening weekend.
Ice Spice's "Barbie World" f/Minaj & Aqua (10K/Capitol) soared to #2 on Spotify U.S., its highest position yet, and is #4 at Apple Music on Tuesday (7/25). Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" (Darkroom/Interscope) is up to #3 at Spotify Global, #5 on Spot's U.S. chart and #6 at Apple Music, followed by Dua Lipa's "Dance the Night," which reached the Top 10 for the first time at Spotify and is #28 at Apple Music.
Barbie the Album (Best Weekend Ever Edition) is #2 at Apple Music, while Barbie: The Album tops the iTunes chart.
Charli XCX and even Ryan Gosling are also benefiting from the pink wave sweeping the nation. Gosling's "I'm Just Ken" from the movie charted on Saturday and is up to #42.
We're only a few days into the Barbie boom. Based on the movie’s $26m gross on Monday—a record for Warner Bros.—the doll clearly has legs at the cinema. Will the music? Stay tuned.
