SWIFT CROWNED IFPI ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Taylor Swift has won the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry's (IFPI) 2022 Global Recording Artist of the Year Award for the third time, the most of any artist (she won in 2014 and 2019).

Swift has been a regular presence on the IFPI Global Artist Chart, placing second in 2021 behind BTS. She also charted in the Top 3 in 2015, 2017 and 2020. Her release of Midnights (Republic) last October effortlessly propelled her to the top of the list.

Elsewhere on the Global Artist Chart, BTS ranked #2 following back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021, while Drake landed at #3. Bad Bunny settled in at #4, making him the first Latin American artist to enter the Top 5. That's also the highest position ever achieved by an artist performing predominantly in Spanish. The Weeknd rounded out the Top 5.

“It is a great pleasure to award the IFPI Global Recording Artist Award to Taylor Swift for an unprecedented third time in the chart’s 10-year history,” said IFPI Chief Executive Frances Moore. “Taylor is a truly magnificent international star, who continues to grow and evolve as an artist while maintaining an incredibly strong connection with her fans around the world. It's exciting to see this year’s Global Recording Artist Chart reflect the increasingly diverse spectrum of music available to music fans today, with superstars from Latin America, Taiwan and South Korea as well as the U.S., U.K. and Canada represented. Record companies continue to work diligently in every corner of the globe to find and develop global stars and build their successful careers for the long term.”

Other artists who made the Top 20 include Kendrick Lamar, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, Harry Styles, Jay Chou, Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Ye, NBA YoungBoy, Lil Baby, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Juice WRLD, The Beatles and Imagine Dragons.

The IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award and Top 20 chart measure consumption of all formats in all countries. We, on the other hand, can't even measure how much vermouth is supposed to go into this damn Manhattan.
