TRAIN GETS ITS ZEP ON AT THE TROUB
6/7/16

Train blew the roof off L.A.’s Troubadour last night playing Led Zeppelin II in its entirety and other faves from the Zep catalog. As I’ve noted elsewhere, the Crush Music band’s new album recreation of II is stunning (and benefits a very worthy cause). But experiencing it live is another matter entirely. Singer Pat Monahan and troupe delivered the kind of rock energy, virtuosity and joy you just don’t encounter often nowadays, and the packed Troub was headbanging, air-riffing and screaming along as one.

After barnstorming through the second Zep set, they answered the crowd’s frenzied screams with an encore set composed mostly of the meat of Zeppelin IV, including “Rock and Roll,” “Black Dog,” “Misty Mountain Hop” and the ramp-up and finale of “Stairway to Heaven.” The attendees were left drained and hoarse.

Train will bring the thunder to Kimmel this week; set your DVRs.
