WHAT IT IS: Nigerian-born singer-songwriter Adekunle Gold has amassed nearly a billion streams on his Def Jam debut album, Tequila Ever After. A&R’d by Def Jam CEO Tunji Balogun, the 18-track project infuses Gold’s signature Afropop sound with Afrobeats, R&B and amapiano. A depiction of a series of tequila-lubricated conversations, the album features collabs with Khalid, Pharell, Nile Rodgers, Simi, Ami Faku and Coco Jones. “Party No Dey Stop” peaked at #1in Nigeria and hit the Top 10 on the U.S. Afrobeats chart.
