WHAT IT IS: Cimafunk is the brainchild of Cuban medical-student-turned-Latin-funk-star Erik Iglesias Rodríguez. Performing with a nine-piece band all from Cuba, Cimafunk broke onto the scene in 2017, and his 2018 hit, “Me Voy,” became a household favorite in Cuba. 2021 saw the arrival of his sophomore album, El Alimento. The 13-track set features “Funk Aspirin” with the Godfather of Funk, George Clinton, and blends Afro-Cuban elements with classic American funk, resulting in a global funk, soul and hip-hop collection of songs.
