WHAT IT IS: Born and raised in the East N.Y. section of Brooklyn to Trinidadian parents, Young Devyn began writing and performing Soca music at eight years old. She sold out local shows before touring with Soca music legends including Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin, while drawing inspiration from artists like Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, Lauryn Hill and Pop Smoke to refine her storytelling and lyricism. Following viral freestyle videos, the young phenom made her way to Sway in the Morning and the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher, picking up co-signs from Minaj, Waka Flocka and Taraji P. Henson along the way.
