WHAT IT IS: Hailing from the East Bay, AG Club, aka Avant Garde Club, is a 14-member DIY collective consisting of musicians, directors, filmmakers, content creators, photographers and designers. It was founded in 2017 after lead performers Baby Boy and Jody Fontaine connected in a session. In the era of Internet kids, the collective’s members developed their tastes through a wi-fi connection, expanding their influences and branding themselves beyond genres. After releasing In My Mind: The Prequel in 2019 and Halfway Off the Porch in 2020—the latter of which yielded their breakout single, “Memphis” and a remix that tapped NLE Choppa and A$AP Ferg—the group delivered parts one and two of Fuck Your Expectations in 2021. Everything was created in house alongside AG Club’s primary directors, Manny Madrigal of 777 Media and Ivan Collaco.
