WHAT IT IS: Brooklyn native Carlos St. John—better known by his stage name SAINt JHN—has been steadily working toward stardom since he was 11. Earning songwriting credits in the early 2010s for artists including Hoodie Allen and Usher, the Guyanese-American rapper, singer, songwriter, designer and producer dropped his rule-breaking debut album, Collection One, in 2017. In 2019, he had a feature on the Lion King soundtrack alongside Beyoncé and Blue Ivy and released his critically acclaimed sophomore album, Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs. His single “Roses,” originally released four years ago, has since blossomed into a TikTok-viral hit with the help of Russian DJ/producer Imanbek, who flipped the track with an electro-hop element.
