The Unlikely Candidates (RED MUSIC/Century Media)
4/22/19

WHAT IT IS: One listen to The Unlikely Candidates and it’s clear that the alternative-rock mavericks create their own scene. One song vaults from a stadium anthem to a piano ballad, while the next twists a syncopated singalong into a contemporary grunge-influenced pop song. Boundaries don’t apply to the quintet, which comprises Kyle Morris (vocals), Brent Carney (lead guitar), Cole Male (guitar), Jared Hornbeek (bass) and Kevin Goddard (drums). Influenced by everything from Oasis and The Strokes to Led Zeppelin to romantic poetry and the writing of Tao Lin, they consistently craft unpredictable and unbreakable alternative pop rock music, powered by gritty attitude, danceable swagger and indie flair. Hailing from Fort Worth and uniting in High School, these guys immediately separated themselves from the norm. Breaking free from the typical musical traditions associated with the Lone Star State and carving out their own niche by challenging the status quo, they ended up with an alternative style all their own.
