Zipper Club (Bee & El/Epic)

WHAT IT IS: The band—Mason James of Cerebral Ballzy, Lissy Trullie and drummer Damar Davis —is a union of like-minded musicians who have each navigated the rocky waters of the music industry. The result is a blissful headrush of a band, armed with fuzzy guitars, spacey synths and magnetic melodies, which is made evident by their debut single, “Going the Distance.” “It’s music that’s not trying to be something it’s not,” Trullie says of the addictive, brain-lodging sound on their forthcoming debut album, produced by James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle).
SINGLE: “Breath”
LIVE: The band toured with Tears For Fears, The Crookes, The Griswolds, Eliot Sumner and The Sounds in 2016; upcoming festival dates at SXSW, Coachella, Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, more to be announced
PRESS: Galore (“Zipper Club is an unlikely pair–a garage band punk formerly of Cerebral Ballzy fame, with the highbrow sophistication of an east coast artist-slash-songwriter, but the mix somehow makes magic–like a perfectly mixed cocktail”), Nylon (“Prepare to be left wanting more”), Noisey (“‘Going the Distance’ is very John Hughes-esque, very feel-free and feel-fine and roll the car window down a little further. A synth-laced, trench-coat-cinematically-billowing-as-you-run-around-the-city-streets kind of indie pop. But isn’t that the sweet spot?”) Bullett (“Catchy, unapologetic pop that embodies Downtown cool”; “Biting new-wave anthem—think The Clash meets The Knife”)
