THE B-SIDE
James Davis
2/5/15

Just in time for "A New Definition of Soul," hosted by Motown at the Troubadour, label newcomers James Davis have released their first music video...and their first taste of music to the public in general.

I caught this sibling trio at the Capitol Congress showcase this past summer. They had me so entranced and enveloped in their tangibly smoky sound--call it folk-tinged neo-soul--that I was soon Googling frantically to know more.

And to my dismay, I found nothing. No Facebook, no Twitter, no SoundCloud, no YouTube, no Spotify. Is that even possible in the modern world? Am O suffering from a severely early case of dementia? Did I just pop a tab of acid and hallucinate it all?

This mystery had to be solved.

Alas, they were indeed off the grid--and none of my extreme Internet-trolling skills could help me find a trace. That said, I nearly fainted upon finding out about the recent online emergence of their music. So far, they've snagged features from Rolling Stone and Fader, but I'd bet it's not long before they take over. At the very least, their delectable balance between electronic and earthy has already taken over my heart.

Word on the street is that you can expect their self-titled EP to drop 3/17.

Now excuse me while I go light some incense, down a bottle of Merlot and play that video 700 more times while I search for my soul. That is, before I Uber my butt to the Troubadour to catch them with labelmates BJ the Chicago Kid (who recently released a killer vid with ScHoolboy Q) and Kevin Ross. See ya there.

xx,
Samantha Hissong
