Independent entertainment company The Other Songs has signed a publishing pact with Universal Music Publishing Group. British singer and songwriter Bruno Major (pictured) is the first signing under the new arrangement.

In addition, British publishing exec Jacque O’Leary has joined The Other Songs as General Manager. She formerly held roles at [PIAS], Beggars Group, Downtown, Roc Nation and Sony Music Publishing.

UMPG U.K. Head of A&R Pete Simmons called it "a real privilege to be able to team up with The Other Songs," adding that what "their wonderful team have built is inspiring, and us getting to be a part of that moving forward is so exciting—especially with an incredible talent like Bruno.”

Major, an AWAL artist, has garnered 1.8b streams with his three albums. His tracks “Easily” and “Nothing” are Platinum and Gold certified, respectively, and he’s completed sold out tour dates across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

“Bruno is an extraordinary storyteller. His songs continue to change people’s lives and this partnership is an opportunity for Bruno to expand his reach into theatre, TV and film, whilst continuing to build his remarkable artist journey. Special thanks to his manager, Sam Bailey, and Harbour Artists & Music, and to our publishing partners, Mike McCormack and Pete Simmons.”

WCM MEXICO INKS CHILEAN STAR MON LAFERTE
8/27/24

Warner Chappell Music Mexico has inked Mon Laferte, Chile's best-selling artist of the 21st century, to a worldwide admin deal.

Laferte, who has 11m monthly Spotify listeners, also a record for a Chilean act, was previously signed to WCM more than a decade ago. “I’m really excited for what’s ahead," she said. "They were the first ones to have faith in me.”

The singer-composer, whose work runs the gamut from rock to cumbia to salsa, recently wrapped her Autopoetica world tour, although she does have a 10/23 date in her adopted home base of Mexico City. Netflix has also been streaming the doc Mon Laferte, Te Amo since 8/1.

Laferte has shown many sides over the years, from performing on the Chilean reality series Rojo to fronting the Mexican metal band Mystica Girls. She’s also collaborated with Gwen Stefani and Juanes, with whom she won a Latin Grammy in 2018 for the single “Amárrame.”

"We initially signed her back in 2013 when she had just moved to Mexico, and it was perfect timing—an opportunity to understand her dreams and aspirations from the start," said WCM President/U.S. Latin & Latin America Gustavo Menéndez, pictured right of Laferte and WCM Mexico Managing Director Carlos Ruiz. "I am personally very happy to have her back. This return signifies a beautiful full-circle moment for us.”

WCM ELEVATES GOLDSEN TO NORTH AMERICAN A&R SVP
8/12/24

Warner Chappell Music has upped David Goldsen to SVP/North American A&R, where he’ll continue to report to and work closely with WCM President/North America Ryan Press to sign and develop artists across multiple genres.

Goldsen, who joined WCM in 2009, is coming off a banner year in which he signed Zach Bryan, Teddy Swims, The Red Clay Strays, Laufey and Sleep Token. He also continues to work with Mitski, who he brought to WCM back in 2018. His roster is rounded out by Vance Joy, Tones and I, Nathaniel Rateliff, Oliver Tree and Cavetown.

The L.A.-based exec most recently served as WCM's VP/Creative and Head of A&R, Australia. He's spent the past two years leading WCM strategy Down Under while continuing to support its U.S, U.K. and international roster.

“I'm very lucky and proud to get to work with the best writers and artists and look forward to continuing to build on the fantastic development we've seen recently," Goldsen said.

"David has consistently proven his natural ability to discover and sign top talent. He has steadily built a star-studded roster, and in the past year alone, has brought in many of the artists and songwriters leading today's charts," added Press. "I’m proud of everything he’s accomplished on our team as an executive and inspiring leader."
