After a very competitive contest to sign the breakthough act, Jody Gerson's UMPG has announced a global co-publishing deal with Surfaces. The Texas duo consists of songwriters Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki, who are signed to 10K Projects and repped by management team Homemade Projects.
Surfaces' breakthrough year is rooted in the success of their hit single, "Sunday Best," which is certified gold by the RIAA, has over 200m streams on Spotify and is inside the Top 20 at Pop radio. The song went viral on TikTok, earning over 24m creations so far.
UMPG Co-Head A&R David Gray said: "We are excited to work closely and creatively with Colin and Forrest on what will be a long and successful career for Surfaces. Their positive outlook, both personally and musically, is a much-needed breath of fresh air for pop music. Jody Gerson’s support and Lillia Parsa’s diligence were instrumental in making this happen."
Tony Talamo and Zach Friedman, co-founders of Homemade Projects, added: "At the end of the day, everything boils down to the songs you’re putting out into the world and with Surfaces, we wanted to make sure we are working with people who wake up every day as excited about their songs as we are. UMPG are those people and we couldn’t be happier to be working together."
Celebrating the signing above via a Zoom party (and drink God only knows what) are (l-r) Gray, Director A&R Parsa, Tony Talamo and Zach Friedman of Homemade Projects, Surfaces' Colin Padalecki, UMPG Sr. Dir. Biz & Legal Kerrigan Hennings, Surfaces' Forrest Frank, Gerson and Joe W. Halbardier of King, Holmes, Paterno & Soriano, LLP.
