It was so nice to have a little nip of fall in the air this past weekend. Can’t wait to curl up in front of the television with a blanket and watch all the fall shows come back on. And I hear the music syncs are going to be plentiful, which should make watching more fun. DWTS started last night and it was loaded with artist appearances and current pop music. If you’re out on the West Coast, you’re going to have to wait a bit for those fall temperatures; I hear it’s pretty warm.
And speaking of things being hot, Republic’s CW, Spangler and Russell are

still setting the pop chart ablaze, as The Weekend’s “The Hills” (XO) jumps into the Top 10 this week and Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” (Big Machine) follows right on his heels; it shouldn’t be long until they have another #1 on their hands. Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” (DCD2/Island) is also climbing up inside the Top 10 as it moves to #7 this week. Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” (Island) has moved up to #13, and with some terrific callout under its belt, there should be no slowing down. Hailee Steinfeld’s “Love Myself”—the #1 Greatest Gainer on Pandora—moves up inside the Top 20. Meanwhile, Nick Jonas’ “Levels” (Safehouse/Island) is the #1 Greatest Gainer at Shazam and was Top 10 this week on SNOL. Impacting this week are Sam Feldt f/Kimberly Anne’s “Show Me Love” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling” (YMCMB). The latter is currently #3 on iTunes. As for the joint venture with Hollywood, Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” (Safehouse/Island/Hollywood) is now Top 5. It has #1 RateTheMusic callout and 30m+ Spotify streams to date.
Hollywood’s Finck, Smith and Ennis will have their plates full this week, as they launch “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)” by S-Curve’s Andy Grammer, who just made his debut on DWTS. They’ve also been preparing to launch ZZ Ward’s “Love 3X,” which pulled in SiriusXM’s Hits 1, WZPL, KMXV and WRVQ last week.
RCA’s Riccitelli, JR, Daddio, Cooper & Strazza are launching Pentatonix’s “Can’t Sleep Love” and have a nice set of majors on board early, including Z100, KMXV, WNCI, WZPL and KNOU. R. City f/Adam Levine’s “Locked Away” continues to pull 1000+ spin increases each week, as it moves up inside the Top 10 and hits #1 on the Worldwide Shazam Chart and #2 on the U.S. one. After only four weeks, Elle King’s “Ex’s and Oh’s” is set to move Top 30; KKRZ, KXHT and WXSS are all new. Kygo’s “Firestone,” which pulled in KTFM and KKSW last week, has charted.
Capitol’s Reese, Rainey, Youngblood and Siciliano are off to a great start with Audien f/Lady A’s “Something Better”; early believers include KZZP, KHTS, KZHT and KKRZ.
Artbeatz/RED’s Buch, Halpern & Weil are definitely firing on all cylinders, as Daya’s “Hide Away” really starts to break through. Sales doubled this week, as the track moved almost 20k pieces, and it’s Shazaming in all the airplay markets. Already on the board for this week are KDWB, WLAN and KSPW. On that note, RED/RAL has two tracks that are making big noise; just as Z100, Y100 and KHTS all open it up, The Chainsmokers f/Rozes’ “Roses” gets the attention of Justin Bieber (see video below), and Shaggy f/Pitbull’s “Only Love,” which is growing quickly, looks like it’ll chart with 30+ stations on board and WKSC and WRVW already in for this week.
Columbia’s Leipsner, Borris & Vaughan have to be very happy over the callout that’s posting on One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” (SYCO). Considering that the track looks like it’s about to move Top 10, you couldn’t ask for better timing. Calvin Harris & Disciples’ “How Deep Is Your Love” moves Top 25; WFLY, WIXX and KKXX are all new this week. Little Mix’s “Black Magic” (SYCO) is looking to move Top 25 and pulls in new airplay from WDZH and XHTZ.
Def Jam’s Sackheim, Rothschild & Farag also got a kiss from the callout gods this week, as Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean” sits just outside the Top 10 and looks ready to make the jump. The track was this week’s Greatest Gainer. With the callout numbers we hear are coming in, it should be in the Greatest Gainer battle for the next few weeks and seems destined to be #1. Alessia Cara’s “Here” sold 22k this week and is also climbing the chart. That one moved Top 30 this week with over 125 stations on board, including newcomers WWPW, KPTT and WKXJ.
Warner Bros.’ Gray, Dyer, Reich & Shih moved Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Downtown” Top 20. It was the #4 Greatest Gainer with +1800 spins, and there are 23 new adds already on the board for this week. Adam Lambert’s “Ghost Town” jumped up again this week, as it moved into power at WKSC and moved up in rotation at WNKS, WIOQ and WKTU based on callout.
Epic’s Team Glassman have a lot of good things going on. A Great Big World’s “Hold Each Other” (Black Magnetic) is currently sitting at #33 with new adds from WRQX, WWPW, XHTZ and WQEN. Meghan Trainor f/John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” moved up four spots on the chart to #35; it’s currently Top 10 on iTunes and #23 on Shazam nationwide. Fifth Harmony’s “I’m in Love With a Monster” (SYCO) is bubbling just under the chart with WNOH, WNFN and WWHT already on the board for this week. Zara Larsson’s “Lush Life,” on the other hand, is impacting this week.
MUSIC WE LOVE: Drake’s “Hotline Bling” (YMCMB/Republic), Zara Larsson’s “Lush Life” (Epic).
