London-based artist Lola Young has already conquered her home territory with the single "Messy," which is #3 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart after 10 weeks.
As the track continues to inch forward in the U.S., Young, who is signed to Island U.K., made her in-studio U.S. late-night TV debut on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and chatted with the host beforehand about the song and what it has meant for her budding career.
At Island, Young joins such new stars as Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, as well as up-and-comer Gigi Perez. Her sophomore album, It Wasn't Meant for You Anyway, came out in June of 2024.
"Look at the things we've been fortunate to have success with," Island co-head Justin Eshak told HITS last month. "Most of the success is coming long after the songs are released. We’re about to have that now with Lola Young. 'Messy" came out there in the summer, and it's about to start moving here. A lot of the Chappell songs from Rise and Fall were three or four years old. If you recognize that, it takes some pressure off this idea that you have to have everything absolutely perfect when a song comes out."
Young will be on tour in Europe this winter and spring before hitting Coachella in April.
