As expected, the FireAid benefit on 1/30 in Los Angeles will include some of the biggest names in the biz, with Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Gracie Abrams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joni Mitchell, Dave Matthews & John Mayer, Gwen Stefani, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, P!nk, Katy Perry, Lil Baby, Sting, Stephen Stills, FINNEAS, Earth, Wind & Fire and Tate McRae all on board.
FireAid is being produced by the Azoff family in conjunction with Live Nation and AEG Presents. Because of the large (and still growing) number of artists who have volunteered to perform, the fundraiser will now simultaneously take place at two venues, Intuit Dome and the Forum. Tickets go on sale 1/22 at noon PT, and more acts will be announced.
Proceeds from FireAid will go to a newly created 501(c)(3) dedicated to “rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families and advancing fire-prevention technologies and strategies to ensure L.A. is better prepared for fire emergencies.” They will be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation.
The Azoff-managed Eagles were the first artists to make a donation, pledging $2.5m to the cause.
The event will broadcast at select AMC theatres, Apple Music and the Apple TV app, Max, iHeartRadio, KTLA+, Netflix/Tudom, Paramount+, Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel on Twitch, SiriusXM, Spotify, SoundCloud, Veeps and YouTube.
Due to its scale, FireAid is drawing comparisons to Live Aid, USA for Africa (“We Are the World”), the post-9/11 Concert for New York City and other historic convergences of music and philanthropy.
Venue owner Steve Ballmer is a driving force behind the event. It could raise in the neighborhood of $50m, a goal that several insiders believe is highly attainable. Super-producer Joel Gallen, who produced and directed the 9/11 special America: A Tribute to Heroes, is rumored to be attached as well.
