While Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine (Republic) races to the top of the Apple Music and iTunes album charts, she's released a video for “we can’t be friends (wait for your love).” Christian Breslauer directed the clip.
The pop star has also opened to Amazon Music's Zach Sang about the making of eternal sunshine as part of an exclusive track-by-track interview out now. Grande's first indepth conversation about the new album, also with Sang, premiered on Amazon Music last week.
In the track-by-track, Grande dives deep into her inspirations and motivations, including the decision to remake Brandy and Monica's late '90s classic "The Boy Is Mine." Her version is informed by positive fan response to the leaked song "Fantasize," with Grande calling it "the version" of that track "that they wanted to have. It’s a sexier, naughtier one. It’s more provocative than the rest. It’s not about what you think it was about. It’s also a song that I’ve always wanted to interpolate."
Reflecting on the subject of the single "yes... and?," Grande noted, "It’s just such a funny duality with the internet how people can be so toxic positive and then the next Tweet is the meanest thing I’ve ever read in my entire life. I think 'yes… and?' is the right thing to say, 'hey, we’re all experiencing this same kind of journey, in a different way, on a different level, on a different this.' I liked it because it’s also expressing a whole bunch of feelings I’ve had for the past forever of my career."
Grande will no doubt be expressing herself on Saturday Night Live this weekend when she performs two of her new songs.
