Rumor has it Sexyy Red has signed with gamma. (not a label). If true, it's a big get for Larry Jackson, considering that multiple majors were vying to ink the 2023 breakout artist, who's repped for legal by Theo Sedlmayr. We hear that one formidable label made a last-minute push to swoop in and take LJ's lunch money, but that he was able to fend it off.
Sexyy Red, who first broke in the mainstream thanks to Jackson's crafty deal with Vydia, has two mixtapes under her belt, Ghetto Superstar and Hood Hottest Princess (Open Shift/gamma.), the latter, which dropped last June, racking up 360k in U.S. ATD, as well as the Pound Town EP. She's earned 460m total U.S. audio streams to date.
The St. Louis rapper (born Janae Wherry) shot to notoriety with last year's "Pound Town" f/Tay Keith (1m in U.S. ATD) and its subsequent remix, "Pound Town 2" with Nicki Minaj. Her solo single "SkeeYee" (833k U.S.) and appearances on cuts by Drake & SZA, DaBaby, NLE Choppa and Young Nudy with Latto boosted her visibility.
Expect much more from Sexyy Red in 2024. In a related story, we're thinking of adding a vowel to our name.
