UMGC INKS DEAL WITH "KING OF MANDOPOP"

Universal Music Greater China (UMGC) has forged a strategic partnership with the “King of Mandopop," Jay Chou, and his JVR Music label.

UMGC will secure global marketing and distribution rights for the Taiwanese singer’s catalog and future projects while also supporting talent from his label, including Patrick Brasca and Young (Cao Yang). The arrival of Chou (pictured in striped shirt), IFPI’s 2022 Global Album Sales Chart leader, underscores the company's commitment to elevating Mandopop music on the international stage.

Chou exploded on the Mandarin music scene in 2000 following the release of his debut album, JAY. His latest project, Greatest Works of Art, was released last year.

“It is with immense pride and excitement that we welcome Jay Chou, an icon of our times, into the Universal Music family,” said UMGC Chairman/CEO Timothy Xu. "This partnership is more than a milestone for us; it’s a celebration of Jay's extraordinary artistry and global appeal. We are deeply honored to be entrusted with his musical legacy and are eager to help showcase his remarkable talent to a broader global audience.”

JVR Music CEO JR Yang (on left in handshake picture, with Xu) added, “Aligning with UMG in this strategic partnership marks a new chapter for Jay and JVR towards our vision of elevating Mandarin pop music globally. Leveraging UMG’s extensive global network enables us to amplify Jay’s artistic impact and the diversity of our artist roster on a global scale. We are excited about harnessing this alliance to transcend cultural boundaries and cement the international presence of our unique musical heritage."

Yang and Xu were subsequently presented with a copy of our print publication, which they agreed makes an excellent case for recycling.
