GIRL, YOU KNOW IT'S A PARAMOUNT+ BOY-BAND DOC

Paramount+ is getting into the boy-band business with an as-yet-untitled documentary about such genre titans as *NSYNC, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys (pictured) and 98 Degrees.

The project will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios in partnership with manager extraordinaire Johnny Wright and Gunpowder & Sky, whose Van Toffler had a front-row seat to the boy-band era thanks to his longtime stewardship of MTV’s TRL and Video Music Awards.

Tamra Davis, whose credits include the films CB4, Billy Madison and the Britney Spears vehicle Crossroads—as well as videos for NKOTB’s “Call It What You Want” and Hanson’s “MMMBop,” among many others, will direct.

The doc will feature live footage and new and archival interviews with boy-band stars while tracing the genre’s influence on contemporary chart-toppers like Harry Styles and K-pop acts in the BTS model. “Boy bands remain bona fide global sensations to this day,” proclaimed Paramount music honcho Bruce Gillmer.

The film follows Paramount+’s recent Gunpowder & Sky-produced music docs I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream and the previously untold story of soft rock, Sometimes When We Touch. Speaking of which, Van reports that sometimes when he accidentally touches a copy of HITS he gets an odd rash.
