STONES GET "ANGRY"

The Rolling Stones' first collection of new material in 18 years will arrive on 10/20. First single “Angry” is out now.

The 12-track Hackney Diamonds (Geffen) was introduced via a YouTube conversation with Jimmy Fallon that found the band ensconced at London's 1901 Hackney Empire theater.

“We’ve gotta make a record that we really love ourselves,” Mick Jagger said, seated with Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood. “Other people may like it, they may not—but we have to love it.”

Jagger said the band recorded 23 songs in Los Angeles in December, finished them in January and mixed in February. Richards allowed that they'd scrapped the titles Hit and Run and Smash and Grab in favor of Hackney Diamonds, British slang for the shards of glass left after a break-in.

Two of the album's songs, "Live by the Sword" and "Mess It Up," were recorded in 2019 with late drummer Charlie Watts; Steve Jordan drums on the others.

The previous album of new material by the Stones, A Bigger Bang, was released in 2005.
