ALL EYEZ ON INTERSCOPE

The dynamic relationship between Tupac Shakur and his mother, Afeni Shakur, will be examined in the FX docuseries Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur.

The first two episodes will air Friday (4/21) on FX and Hulu. Directed by Allen Hughes and co-produced by Interscope, the five-part show will explore Afeni's history with the Black Panther Party, her addiction to crack cocaine, her arrest on conspiracy charges and subsequent acquittal and, of course, how all that coincided with parenthood.

Meanwhile, 2Pac's music will serve as the backdrop for the project. The title comes from his 1995 single "Dear Mama," in which he acknowledges his mother's complex existence: "Even as a crack fiend, Mama, you always was a Black queen." Interscope expects a big jump in streaming numbers following its premiere. Even 27 years after 2Pac's murder, his catalog still nets 22.4m monthly listeners on Spotify.

In related news, powerhouse attorney Dina LaPolt, who secured the rights to 'Pac's life story from the late MC's estate, is producing a scripted version of Afeni's life story. Lapolt represented Afeni and the 2Pac estate for several years.
