Curated by music director and producer Questlove, the era-spanning showcase will feature performances by Big Boi, Busta Rhymes with Spliff Star, De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, GloRilla, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, The LOX, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rakim, RUN-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella, Geto Boys’ Scarface, Swizz Beatz, Too $hort and more.
LL COOL J will introduce the segment with a dedication. Music will be provided by The Roots, and Black Thought will narrate.
"For five decades, hip-hop has not only been a defining force in music but a major influence on our culture," Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said. "Its contributions to art, fashion, sports, politics and society cannot be overstated. I'm so proud that we're honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. This is just the beginning of our yearlong celebration of this essential genre of music."
The segment is part of Paramount Global's companywide tribute to hip-hop’s 50th. CBS and the Recording Academy will broadcast a hip-hop event later this year. More information on the initiative can be found here.
Hosted by Trevor Noah, the 65th Grammy Awards take place on Sunday (2/3) at Crypto.com Arena and will be broadcast live at 8pm ET/5pm PT on CBS. The show will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. The premiere ceremony kicks off at 12:30pm at Microsoft Arena and will be livestreamed on the Grammys website. As for us, we'll be throwing our hands in the air and wavin' em like we just don't care.
