MUSICARES TO HONOR GORDY AND ROBINSON AS PERSONS OF THE YEAR

The Recording Academy has announced an all-star lineup of artists slated to salute MusiCares' 2023 Persons of the Year, Motown legends Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson.

The 32nd annual benefit gala, taking place on 2/3 at the L.A. Convention Center, will boast performances by Jimmie Allen, Brandi Carlile, Chloe x Halle, Sheryl Crow, the Four Tops, Lalah Hathaway, The Isley Brothers, Samara Joy, John Legend, Michael McDonald, PJ Morton, Mumford & Sons, Lionel Richie, The Temptations, Trombone Shorty, Valerie Simpson, Molly Tuttle, Dionne Warwick, Rita Wilson and Sebastián Yatra.

Performers will pay tribute to the individual legacies of Motown founder Gordy and superstar songwriter-artist (and sometime exec) Robinson, as well as the music they created together during their decades-long collaboration.

"We're bringing together such a unique lineup of artists not only to pay tribute to Mr. Gordy, Mr. Robinson and Motown but also to raise awareness of the critical health and social-service needs within the music community," said MusiCares Executive Director Laura Segura. "The funds raised by Persons of the Year will allow MusiCares to continue to provide vital services to those who make the songs and events we all love possible."

Gordy added: “I'm so excited to share the always wonderful MusiCares event with my best friend, Smokey Robinson, and I can't wait to hear these wonderful artists celebrate Motown's music."

The soiree will again be produced by live-event-broadcast outfit Lewis & Clark (Joe Lewis and R.A. Clark). Detroit's own Greg Phillinganes will serve as musical director.
