Adele’s 30 (Columbia) has topped the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry's Global Album All Format Chart for 2021, while The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears” (XO/Republic) has won the organization’s Digital Single Award.
30, which reached #1 in more than 20 markets last year, dominated all three of IFPI’s global album charts; in addition to the all-format chart, it’s #1 in sales and on the newly launched vinyl chart. The set surpassed 5m in physical album-equivalent sales in less than two months.
The rest of the All Format Chart Top 5 is made up of Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR (Geffen) at #2, Justin Bieber’s Justice (Def Jam) at #3, Ed Sheeran’s = (Atlantic) at #4 and The Weeknd’s After Hours at #5.
The Weeknd becomes the first artist to win the IFPI award two years in a row: “Save Your Tears” in 2021 and "Blinding Lights" in 2020. The former topped charts globally and racked up 2.15b in subscription streaming-equivalent sales last year.
