UMG SIGNS A SEX PISTOL

Universal Music Group has traveled back in time and signed Sex Pistols founding member Glen Matlock, who's promising a “timely and politically pertinent” new album in 2022.

The global deal will see UMG’s catalog division rereleasing many of Matlock’s previous solo albums, the last of which, Good to Go, arrived independently in 2018.

Matlock started his career as bass guitarist in the original lineup of the Sex Pistols and is credited as a co-writer on “Anarchy in the U.K.,” “God Save the Queen” and “Pretty Vacant.”

Naturally, he's “over the moon” to have signed with UMG. “I can’t wait to get cracking with the team,” he said. “Watch this space.”

Matlock fans may be disappointed to learn there are no plans to release albums by former Matlock star Andy Griffith.
