The 2022 BRIT Award nominations have been announced, with Adele, Ed Sheeran, Little Simz and Dave up for four trophies each. UMG leads with 29 entries (some of which are shared). Others up for multiple awards include Sam Fender, Central Cee and David Guetta, each of whom is nominated for three. Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X are up for two apiece.
Universal already counts a winner in Holly Humberstone, who was recently named BRITs Rising Star, adding to its tally of 29, which rises to 32 total when you count her alongside Rising Star nominees Bree Runway and Lola Young.
Humberstone’s label, Polydor, enjoys 15 noms, Warner has 25 and Sony 22. There are nine purely independent releases/artists on the list.
The sizable tally spans four new genre awards (which will be decided via a public vote) as well as a rule change that allows featured artists on tracks eligible for Song of the Year and the new International Song of the Year category to be counted as nominees in their own right. As a result, more female artists than in any previous year have gotten the nod.
2022 BRITs Chair and Polydor Co-President Tom March said, "The list is a true testament to the power and vibrancy of British and international music right now. It's great to see so many of the artists that have defined this year being recognized, all displaying enormous talent and creativity.”
The winners will be announced at the BRIT Awards show in London on 2/8 at The O2 Arena, at which time additional statuettes will be handed out for Producer and Songwriter of the Year (the nominations in those categories will be revealed in January).
