HARVEY SALUTES HOUSE FOR PASSING HITS ACT

The House’s passage of the Build Back Better bill is being celebrated for the funds it pumps into education, housing, healthcare and renewable energy, but it also includes the unfortunately named HITS Act.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. applauded the bill’s passage as it now heads to the Senate.

“The passage of the Build Back Better Act in the House, inclusive of the HITS Act, is an important step forward for music creators eager to create new recordings and revitalize the music economy following more than a year and a half of uncertainty,” Mason said. “We truly thank all who supported this meaningful provision in the House, and we now urge the Senate to act quickly to ensure that the HITS Act becomes law."

Mason is hoping this is the last time he will have to use encouraging words about something called HITS.

The bill still has to face a Senate that’s split 50-50 and is almost certainly facing a re-shaping before heading to President Biden’s desk.
