BBC APPOINTS POP TV LEAD

The BBC has appointed Sally Wood to the newly created position of Commissioning Editor, Pop Music TV. She'll start in the role in early 2022, reporting to Lorna Clarke, BBC Controller of Pop.

Collaborating with radio and BBC Sounds, Wood will focus on pop music on TV, iPlayer and digital platforms.

Most recently, she served as Executive Producer of ITV's coverage of the Brit Awards. She has also overseen such productions as ITV's Classic BRIT Awards 2018, One World: Together at Home, which was the BBC’s most-watched music program last year, ITV2's V Festival 2020 and Mandela 100 Festival–Global Citizen.

“Sally has a reputation throughout the media industry as one of television’s most experienced and creative showrunners and executive producers,” Clarke said. “We’ll be working closely with the music industry to produce world-class content to deliver to millions of music fans.”

Between 2003 and 2010, Wood worked at the BBC as Producer and Series Producer, presiding over music specials like Electric Proms, Glastonbury Festival, 1Xtra Live, Beyoncé at the BBC and Madonna Live. Upon leaving the BBC in 2010, she was Series Producer on ITV's This Is Justin Bieber, ITV2's iTunes Festival and Sky Arts' coverage of the Isle of Wight Festival, among other presentations.
