Olivia Rodrigo returns to #1 on the HITS Top 50 for a fifth non-consecutive week as vinyl sales push SOUR (Geffen) to 140k. Rodrigo’s LP surge amounted to roughly 80k of the total, giving the teen phenom the second-biggest vinyl-sales week of the modern era. This year, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Rodrigo all shattered the long-playing record formerly held by Jack White’s Lazaretto. SOUR’s return to #1 gives IGA its fourth consecutive week atop the album chart.
The week’s top debut is by 1400/10K Projects’ Trippie Redd, whose fourth studio album, Trip at Knight, opens at #2 with 75k. Boasting a who’s who of guest rappers from the Soundcloud boom, including Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert and XXXtentacion, Knight marks Trippie’s fifth consecutive Top 3 bow.
Lorde has the next-biggest premiere with Solar Power (Republic), entering at #3 with 64k. A good portion of its total can be attributed to an eco-friendly retail package. Rod Wave’s deluxe edition of Soulfly (his first project via Alamo/Sony) boosts the album to #4. Doja Cat’s Planet Her (Kemosabe/RCA) spends its ninth consecutive week in the Top 5.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER (Big Hit/Imperial/Republic) and the hotly anticipated reissue of Aaliyah’s One in a Million (Blackground/EMPIRE) score Top 10 debuts.
Kanye West's Sunday drop of Donda (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) has changed the center of gravity for the week's new releases. Also streeting this week are titles from Capitol’s Halsey, Galactic/Republic’s Lil Tecca, RCA Nashville's Niko Moon, 19/Hollywood’s Scarypoolparty and deluxe albums from CMG/Interscope’s 42 Dugg and Starboy/RCA’s WizKid.
