YOU MERCK
LOVING FUN

Merck Mercuriadis and his Hipgnosis Songs Fund have acquired 100% of the songwriting catalog of Christine McVie.

One of Fleetwood Mac’s primary songwriters in the 1970s and '80s, McVie penned Mac hits like “Don’t Stop,” “You Make Loving Fun,” “Say That You Love Me” and “Little Lies.”

“Christine McVie is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, having guided Fleetwood Mac to almost 150 million albums sold and making them one of the best-selling bands of all time,” said Mercuriadis. “In the last 46 years, the band has had three distinct writers and vocalists, but Christine’s importance is amply demonstrated by the fact that eight of the 16 songs on the band’s Greatest Hits album are [hers].”

McVie joins former bandmate/collaborator Lindsey Buckingham, who got a fat check from Mercuriadis in January. Between the two writer/artists, Hipgnosis now owns 48 of the 68 songs from Fleetwood Mac’s era of commercial domination, which began in 1975 with its septuple-platinum self-titled album.

“I am so excited to belong to the Hipgnosis family and thrilled that you all regard my songs worthy of merit,” said McVie in an unwarranted moment of prototypically English self-deprecation.
