JERRY GARCIA GETS NFT-ED

The Jerry Garcia Family has announced an NFT offering in partnership with NFT marketplace YellowHeart. The collection is centered on a digital artwork series titled An Odd Little Place: The Digital Works of Jerry Garcia (1992-1995) that features 20 pieces created by the Grateful Dead frontman/guitar wizard.

YellowHeart is also partnering with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for an exclusive preview featuring Garcia’s digital artwork with two NFT ticketing options: a $10k VIP Vault Tour Experience (five available) and an Exclusive Exhibition Preview Experience for $2.5k (20 available).

If you think Garcia would be rolling over in his grave regarding this NFT thing, how wrong you would be. Garcia took art classes at the San Francisco Art Institute throughout his career and according to Jerry Garcia Band manager Big Steve Parish, when Apple released an early version of its computer, Garcia hooked two together and started creating digital art. “He was so ahead of his time,” says Parish in a video announcing the collection. “And here we are years later coinciding with technology again. Jerry would love it.”

Seventeen of the works have been seen before, but remarkably, the Garcia family has also recovered three more from an archival folder on Garcia’s Apple computer. They are the last-known pieces of art created by Garcia, so get them now before they go truckin’ away for good.

Access to purchase the 17 limited-edition pieces opens on 8/1 (Garcia’s birthday); the three final digital artworks he created go up for auction on 8/5 at 3pm ET through 8/7.
