"WHEN AL WAS AROUND, LIFE WAS GOOD"

A fond remembrance of the beloved studio wizard from Patrick Kraus, UMG’s SVP of Recording Studios and Archive Management:

“We mourn the loss of our dear friend, Al Schmitt, and celebrate the life and legacy of one of the most accomplished engineers and producers who ever walked into a recording studio. Al worked with iconic artists on some of the biggest albums of all time. The list of his accomplishments—from Grammy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to gold- and platinum-certified records—is long and distinguished. It’s hard to imagine Capitol Studios without Al at a console, dialing in a mix, catching up with one of his many friends or lighting the place up with his smile and laugh. He will be deeply missed.”

A Facebook post from Capitol StudiosPaula Salvatore:

“My heart is broken. We lost a legend. But more than that, we lost our friend. I am so thankful for the many years I was privileged to spend with him. He made my life complete, and when Al was around, life was good. Every day he’d greet us with that happy smile and a hug. He would spread joy and laughter in every room he went into and ignite inspiration and confidence, making everyone feel special. I’m having a tough time grasping this reality. But I know that Al’s legacy of love and kindness surrounds us, and he’s taught us about life and the importance of relationships and giving of oneself. We should always seek to become more like Al and work with that same passion and humility. He will always be in my heart and a light to my soul. Godspeed, rest and peace to you, my beloved Al.”
