YOSHIKI AIDS MUSICARES

X JAPAN leader and inveterate philanthropist Yoshiki has donated $100,000 to MusiCares to extend mental-health services to music people in need.

The donation from Yoshiki Foundation America will help music creators and industry professionals affected by depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and other manifestations of mental illness.

Mental-health issues have come to the forefront during the pandemic, hitting every facet of the global music industry. Concerns about mental health and well-being hit home for Yoshiki particularly, as seen in the award-winning 2017 documentary We Are X.

“If I didn’t have music and my fans’ support, I could have easily been the one to take my life like some of the people close to me, including my father and my band member,” the composer/pianist/drummer said. “I’d like not only to contribute from my learned experience but try to support those in need. It’s an honor to be working closely with MusiCares on these issues.”
