There’s big news out of Peter Edge's RCA as the company announces not one but two new heads of promotion: Sam Selolwane will run the Hip-Hop, R&B and Mixshow formats, while Keith Rothschild will have oversight of Pop, Rhythm and Rock. They’ll both report to COO John Fleckenstein.
Selolwane, who’s spent 15 years in the Sony system, is upped from SVP Urban Promo. Her prior successes include hits by Chris Brown, H.E.R., SZA, Usher, Miguel, Jazmine Sullivan, Davido, ASAP Ferg, ASAP Rocky, Khalid, G-Eazy, Alicia Keys, Doja Cat, Mulatto and Fousheé. Before her Sony tenure began, she served at Jive and indie promo outfit A.I.R. A hip-hop devotee from her youth, Selolwane started her career in radio, and served as APD and on-air personality at Baltimore’s 92Q.
Rothschild came aboard the House of Nipper in April 2020 as SVP Promo, driving action on Doja Cat, Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus. Before that he was SVP in Def Jam’s Promo department, working hits by Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Alessia Cara, Fall Out Boy, Logic and more during his seven years at the label. This was preceded by a 16-year stint at Warner Bros., where he rocked cuts by Black Keys, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park, among others, and dug for joints in the Ski Lodge's lobby couch.
“Sam is a passionate, forward-thinking leader and a fierce advocate for our artists,” reads a quote from Fleck. “She is universally respected by both her peers and the RCA family. Keith is a seasoned pro who has made an immediate impact at RCA with his relentless drive and strong head for strategy. Together Sam and Keith represent a bold and progressive future for our RCA promotion teams.”
Label topper Edge added: “Sam is an outstanding executive and I’m excited to have her lead this team. She possesses the qualities of a bold leader and is admired by the industry at large. Keith is an influential leader and his ambition for our artists is clear. I know he will be effective in driving the team to deliver success on behalf of our artists.”
Selolwane and Rothschild joined Edge, Fleck and President Mark Pitts in noting that anyone from HITS who refers to them as “buddy” will get a swift kick in the shins.
