GEFFEN OPENS 2021 WITH RECORD-BREAKING DEBUT SINGLE

Geffen is off to a huge start in 2021, as freshly inked Olivia Rodrigo enters rare air with her stratospheric debut single, "drivers license." The chart-topping song is currently shattering all-time streaming records and is on pace for a historic debut week.

Reaching the #1 position on Spotify's Today's Top Hits on Monday, "drivers license" set the record for daily streams on the platform for a female artist with 5.6m, eclipsing Ariana Grande's "thank u, next" (4.19m). The Disney star's breakout is second only to Drake's "Nonstop" for Spotify's biggest U.S. streaming day. On the streamery's global chart, she scored the biggest single day for a non-holiday song, surpassing Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber's "I Don't Care," holder of the title until Christmas Eve 2020.

Team Geffen, which reorganized within the House of Janick in 2020, adds another breakthrough to its roster of next-gen talent with Rodrigo, who was inked by IGA A&R Co-Head Sam Riback; Lee L’Heureux and Nicole Bilzerian are piloting marketing and operations for the project.

"drivers license" is virtually locked for a #1 debut on the Hot 100. It's already approaching 500k in total activity.

A debut of this magnitude can only be compared to solo-career launches by Harry Styles ("Sign of the Times") and ZAYN ("Pillowtalk") and first salvos by Ariana ("The Way") and Kelly Clarkson ("A Moment Like This"). That said, "Pillowtalk" alone bowed at #1 its opening week.

To celebrate Olivia's finally getting her license, Berman and Janick have graciously relinquished their Interscope ice-cream-truck route.
