BROADWAY HAS GEORGIA ON ITS MIND

Georgia is on the mind of anyone interested in the political future of the country, and a new recording of “Georgia on My Mind” by Billy Porter, Audra McDonald and other Broadway stars is being used to raise funds for Fair Fight’s work to ensure that every eligible Georgian has the resources and information they need to vote in the 1/5 runoff election for the state’s two Senate seats.

Fair Fight was founded by former Georgia gubernatorial candidate and voting-rights activist Stacey Abrams. Early voting starts today (12/14).

The refreshed version of the classic song—written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and made famous by Ray Charles—premiered during Fair Fight's “Rock the Runoff” virtual concert.

Broadway Records' "Rock the Runoff: Broadway for Georgia" features the voices of, in addition to Porter and McDonald, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jessie Mueller, Kelli O’Hara, Bernadette Peters, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Leslie Uggams, Blair Underwood, Lillias White and BD Wong, among others.

Theater producers Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley are behind the effort. Since 3/16, Rudetsky and Wesley’s series Stars in the House has raised more than $610,000 for The Actors Fund and other causes.
