GRAMMY NOMS BY
THE NUMBERS: SONG OF THE YEAR

Four songs received nods in both Record of the Year and Song of the Year: Beyoncé’s “Black Parade,” Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted,” Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” and Post Malone’s “Circles.” Of the four, only “Black Parade” failed to reach mega-hit numbers; Billie, Dua and Post have easily cleared 3m in activity to date. Interestingly, of the songs that earned noms in Song but not Record—Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan,” Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” JP Saxe f/Julia Michaels’ “If the World Was Ending” and H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe”—all but the latter were platinum hits.

Award-winning genre hits from Maren Morris (“The Bones”) and Gabby Barrett (“I Hope”) were overlooked, along with socially important songs from Lil Baby (“The Bigger Picture”) and Mickey Guyton (“Black Like Me”).
