The NFL, Pepsi and Roc Nation announced on Thursday morning, 11/12, that XO/Republic superstar The Weeknd will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show. The game will be broadcast on CBS on 2/7/21 live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay.
The Weeknd is the second Super Bowl headliner announced since Roc Nation partnered with the NFL two years ago. Last year, J. Lo and Shakira joined forces for a groundbreaking halftime show.
The telecast will be produced by DPS, with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers and Hamish Hamilton serving as director. Roc Nation is also serving as strategic-entertainment advisors for the live performance.
"We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year," The Weeknd said.
"The Weeknd has introduced a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry," said Shawn "JAY-Z" Carter. "This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer."
The Weeknd has topped the album chart four times this year with his fourth studio album, After Hours. One of the year's most-consumed albums, it's anchored by smash single "Blinding Lights," arguably the biggest hit of 2020.
Ok, time for some nachos.
