DIAMONDS ARE A LEGEND’S BEST FRIEND

Whitney Houston has become the first Black artist in history—male or female, solo or group—to achieve three diamond certifications from the RIAA, as Whitney, the late superstar’s second studio album, released in 1987, joins her debut LP, 1985’s Whitney Houston (13x platinum), and 1993’s The Bodyguard (Soundtrack) (18x platinum) in the vaunted pantheon.

The big news arrives just days before Houston is formally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, during an HBO special on 11/7.

The celebration will continue with I Wanna Dance With Somebody, the official Houston biopic, which is currently casting. The film will be shot next year, with a target release date of Thanksgiving 2022. Stella Meghie (The Photograph) will direct from a script by Anthony McCarten (The Two Popes, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Darkest Hour). McCarten, the Estate of Whitney E. Houston, Clive Davis, Pat Houston, Larry Mestel of Primary Wave, Dennis O' Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri are listed as producers.

Below is a newly created sizzle reel commemorating Whitney’s Rock Hall induction and the 35th anniversary of her debut LP.
