This week all three major music groups, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music, issued requests to employees asking them to work from home as much as possible for the remainder of the year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although offices are open if needed, WFH should be the first option as the labels continue to prioritize the safety of all parties involved. UMG and WMG said they would review the opening of offices in January 2021, while SME stated they don't anticipate a return to U.S. offices before the calendar year.
The pandemic has upended the entire world, though the recording industry has been in a bright spot in entertainment and one of the few sectors that has yet to issue widespread furloughs and layoffs. The touring biz, including the major talent agencies, AEG and Live Nation have all used paycuts, layoffs and furloughs to combat a major loss in revenue this year.
